The Philadelphia Eagles lost their sixth consecutive game on Sunday, falling 27-10 to the Washington Commanders at home in Washington. The Eagles scored the first 10 points of the contest but failed to add another score for the remainder of the game. Washington answered with 27 straight points to secure the victory.
The Eagles' offensive line struggled against the Commanders' defense. Through three quarters, the longest run of the game for Philadelphia was six yards. The team managed only 118 total yards on 30 plays during the first half, averaging 3.9 yards per play. For the entire game, the Eagles gained 268 yards, including 69 yards on a final drive that did not change the outcome.
Quarterback Tanner McKee faced consistent pressure throughout the afternoon. He completed a 20-yard pass to Makai Lemon early in the game, showing good touch. However, the rest of the drive was inconsistent. Running back Saquon Barkley, who battled to stay loose in the game, ran for 24 yards on a wheel route in the first quarter. On the next play, Barkley took a direct snap while McKee was lined up as a wide receiver and ran around the corner for a touchdown.
The defense allowed the Commanders to control the tempo of the game. Jonathan Greenard jumped offsides on the Commanders' first series. On a later play, Andrew Mukuba intercepted a pass, but the catch was nullified by an Eagles penalty. Mukuba forced a fumble later in the game, leading to the Eagles' only touchdown. Zack Baun recovered the loose ball at the Washington 26-yard line.
Kicker Jake Elliott missed the first field goal of the season in the fourth quarter. His 41-yard attempt hit the left upright when the Eagles trailed 16-10. The Eagles went 1-for-6 on third downs in the first half, while Washington was 4-for-9. The two teams combined for 15 penalties totaling 100 yards.
Elijah Mitchell was a standout performer for the Eagles, running hard and serving as a viable receiving option. Moro Ojomo left the game briefly after the first play from scrimmage due to a left arm issue but returned to the field. Ojomo also made a key play late in the first quarter by shedding a blocker to stop a Washington run at the line of scrimmage.
The Eagles will host the New York Giants next Sunday at 1 p.m. at home.
