Canton police made 18 arrests on Friday after executing two search warrants in the city's northwest neighborhood.
Chief John Gabbard said the Coordinated Response Team, backed by the Stark County Regional SWAT Team, Community Involvement Unit, Stark County Sheriff’s Office METRO Unit, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and ATF, first targeted a home at 927 5th St. NW. The police department stated the residence was found to be uninhabitable, prompting contact with the city’s health and code departments. During that search, officers recovered one firearm, narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. The humane society removed six dogs and three cats from the property. The initial warrant led to 17 arrests, with charges ranging from felonies to misdemeanors.
The team then moved to an apartment at 1020 Clarendon Ave. NW. In a media release, the department noted that a large amount of U.S. currency and narcotics were seized during that entry. One person was arrested at the Clarendon Avenue location.
The investigation remains open, and the department said additional criminal charges are pending. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Canton Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144.
