Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United should have signed Ezri Konsa before the defender moved to Arsenal for £55 million. The former England center back told his YouTube audience on Sunday that Konsa is a top player whom United missed out on during the summer transfer window. Ferdinand spoke after Konsa produced a strong performance in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

Konsa, 29, joined Arsenal from Aston Villa this summer. He entered the first team immediately due to an injury layoff for William Saliba. Since joining, Konsa has played in all of Arsenal’s matches this season. The Gunners have won 13 of their 16 games. Sunday’s result was Arsenal’s first win at Anfield since 2012.

Ferdinand praised Konsa’s efficiency on the pitch. He mentioned that he told his 18-year-old son, Tate, who plays center back for the Brighton academy, to watch Konsa against Liverpool. Ferdinand described the move as a positive problem for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. He noted that Konsa has integrated seamlessly into the squad and delivered high-level performances.

Ferdinand expects Saliba to return to the starting lineup once fit. He believes Saliba is good enough to secure a place in the team. Ferdinand said he would not be surprised if Konsa moves back to right back to compete with Jurrien Timber for a spot in the side. He stated that Konsa is a top, top player and another name he thought United should have acquired.

The former United defender emphasized that Konsa is giving Arteta difficult decisions to make. He highlighted that the new signing has slipped into the team without issue. Ferdinand concluded his comments by calling the transfer a great signing for Arsenal. He reiterated that Konsa is one of those players you must find room for in a squad.

Konsa’s move was completed over the summer. He has been a regular starter since arriving. His performances have contributed to Arsenal’s current record in the Premier League. Ferdinand’s comments come as Arsenal continues its strong start to the season. The match against Liverpool was a key fixture for the club’s away record.

Ferdinand’s assessment adds to the debate over United’s summer signings. He pointed to Konsa’s immediate impact as evidence of his quality. The former defender remains active in media commentary on his YouTube channel. His remarks were part of a discussion on current Premier League performances and squad depth.
