Bristol Rovers manager Steve Evans accepted responsibility for the team's struggles on the road after a loss to Fleetwood Town on Saturday. The defeat ended a brief run of form and added to a difficult stretch for the club in League Two.
Rovers have lost six of their seven away league games this season. Only Oldham Athletic and Port Vale have earned fewer points on the road, though both clubs have played one fewer match. The latest loss came at Highbury Stadium, where Aaron Loupalo-Bi, Rhys Bennett, and Josh Roberston scored for Fleetwood Town.
The team's home record contrasts sharply with their away results. At The Memorial Stadium, Rovers have collected 13 points from seven league matches. Their only home defeats came against Salford City and Barnet, which currently occupy the top two spots in the table.
Evans spoke to Bristol Live after the match. He acknowledged the poor performance, stating that the results had been worse than poor. He expressed empathy for the fans who traveled in large numbers. Evans said he would take the criticism for the dressing room. He told supporters to criticize him when they returned home. He said he was large enough to face the fans and enter the Thatchers Bar.
The manager noted that injuries and suspensions have limited his options. Two players were suspended for the Fleetwood match. Evans noted that Kofi had two bookings for dissent and Tommy for indiscipline. He said he would review the squad selection and determine how many players who missed the match would have started.
Rovers will not play away again until November 21. That match will be against Cheltenham Town. Before then, the team faces three consecutive home games. The first is an FA Cup tie against Cambridge United this Friday. Reading and Chesterfield will then visit The Memorial Stadium in the Jersey Mike's Trophy and League Two, respectively.
The club is looking to break a recent losing streak in the league. Rovers have lost seven of their last nine league matches. The upcoming home run offers a chance to stabilize their position before the next away trip.
