Sir Tom Jones performed a sold-out concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, returning to the stage after a week-long hospitalization for pneumonia. The 86-year-old singer took the stage following a period of recovery from an illness that initially presented as the flu but escalated into a severe respiratory condition requiring intensive care.

The singer disclosed that his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to a call for paramedics when he struggled to breathe. He was transported to UCLA Medical Center, where medical staff placed him in intensive care for two days. After spending a total of one week in the hospital, doctors discussed his next steps, prompting Jones to state that he needed to return to performing.

“I thought this was it, you had a wonderful life Tommy but it’s over now,” Jones told the audience, referencing his fear during his most acute moments. He noted that paramedics were called when he could no longer breathe comfortably. The singer credited the medical team for his recovery, stating, “UCLA did a wonderful job, so I’m here.”

The original Los Angeles concert was scheduled for October 26 but was postponed after Jones announced he had been struck down with a bad case of flu. In a previous statement, the artist mentioned completing 20 shows across the United States before becoming unexpectedly ill. Wednesday’s performance marked his return to the venue, where he first performed in 1969.

During the show, Jones reflected on his career history before launching into his first number one hit, It’s Not Unusual. He described the song as having changed his life. The setlist included other major tracks such as Sex Bomb, She’s a Lady, and Delilah. The audience responded with cheers when Jones declared the stage was where he belonged.

The performance was part of the Come Gather Round tour, which commenced in England in June. The North American leg of the tour began on September 18 in Highland Park, Illinois. Jones is scheduled to perform his next concert at the Yaamava Resort and Casino in Highland, California, on Friday.
