Maya Jama, the Love Island host from Bucks County, has revealed that she and comedian Joanne McNally broke an off-screen rule while filming the BBC’s Celebrity Traitors. The pair admitted to sneaking into the castle’s toilets together to share secrets that were not picked up by the cameras.

Jama, who was 32 at the time of filming, posted a montage of clips from her time at Ardross Castle in Scotland to her Instagram account on Thursday, November 5. She tagged McNally in the post and called her a “ball of fun.” Jama noted that most of their interactions were excluded from the broadcast because they spoke about topics other than the game mechanics.

The contestants were generally not permitted to use the restroom together. This rule was highlighted by fellow 2026 participant Joe Lycett, who discussed the strict supervision on his BBC Radio 1 appearance. Lycett read from a diary entry where he joked that he could not use the bathroom freely because producers stood outside to ensure no unscripted shouts were recorded for the show. He expressed his discomfort with having a TV producer present after eating curry.

Jama and McNally also admitted to a more specific violation involving their nightly drink allowance. Jama explained that halfway through the competition, most players stopped having their single drink to maintain their focus on the game. She and McNally quietly consumed the other players’ drinks instead, a move Jama described with a playful “Cling cling” in her caption.

Their dynamic affected the game’s outcome for both women. McNally, who played as a Faithful, was banished after a split roundtable vote that also eliminated Sharon Rooney. Jama, who started as one of Claudia Winkleman’s original Traitors, was ousted at the final roundtable. Her fellow turret-dweller, King Kenny, voted to banish her rather than tie the poll with Romesh Ranganathan. Ranganathan and Sebastian Croft went on to win the game.

Reflecting on the collapse of her alliance in the final week, Jama said the combination of James Acaster refusing to lie, her own focus on keeping the atmosphere pleasant, and Kenny playing as a Faithful made their success impossible. She suggested that a more aggressive approach might have changed the result. The series is currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Metro contacted the BBC for comment on the revelations regarding the toilet rule and the drink consumption.
