The Highland Council area recorded the highest number of homeless individuals in three years, according to a new report released on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Data for the 2025/26 period indicates that 406 people were without homes within the council's jurisdiction. The majority of these residents were between the ages of 26 and 59, accounting for 270 of the total cases. An additional 86 individuals were between 18 and 25 years old.
The report identifies separation from a partner and landlords requesting tenants to leave as the most common reasons for homelessness in the region. Families in temporary accommodation also saw changes in the data. There were 497 families recorded in temporary housing for the current year. This figure is higher than the previous year but lower than the count for 2024/25, which exceeded 500 families.
Councillors for the region will consider the findings of the report on Wednesday, November 4. The document outlines the current state of housing needs in the Highland area. It notes that the council continues its efforts to secure permanent housing for residents who are currently without homes.
