Bristol City ended their four-match winless streak by defeating Bolton Wanderers 3-2 on Saturday. The victory came after the visitors scored two goals in the closing minutes of the match at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. Dom Ballard opened the scoring for City before the 15-minute mark. Josh Sheehan responded for Bolton just three minutes later to make it 1-1. Sam Dalby put the hosts ahead early in the second half after beating Brad Collins from close range.
The game appeared settled in Bolton's favor until the 84th minute. Sam Bell headed in a cross from Pring to level the score. In the third minute of stoppage time, Scott Twine received a cut-back from Jed Wallace and fired it into the net. The goal secured the three points for the visitors. Steven Schumacher, the Bolton manager, described the team's performance in the minutes immediately following the final whistle.
Schumacher said Radio Manchester that his side controlled the match for the majority of the time. He stated that the players were in complete control for about 80 to 85 minutes. He noted that the team should have won the game and definitely should not have lost it. He added that City punished Bolton because of the quality of their players.
The Bolton manager explained that physical fatigue played a role in the late collapse. He said the team had to substitute Forino due to cramp. He also replaced Ben Davies after the player showed signs of injury while stretching. Schumacher said these changes left the defense ragged and stretched. He admitted that a bad pass on the right side led to the equalizer and subsequent counter-attack.
The loss leaves Bolton without a win in their last three matches. This run includes a heavy defeat at Middlesbrough the previous weekend. The team currently sits 19th in the Championship table. They are five points ahead of Burnley, who occupy the final relegation spot. Schumacher identified conceding too many goals as the primary issue for his squad.
He said the team cannot keep allowing three goals per match if they hope to win. He emphasized the need to stop conceding so many goals to create a larger buffer at the bottom of the table. The result moves Bristol City up in the standings while Bolton remains in the lower half of the league.
