Jack Lowden has confirmed he is the clear favorite to become the next James Bond, according to current betting odds, but he has chosen not to confirm or deny the role himself.

The 36 year old Scottish actor is currently priced at 4/6 by Ladbrokes. This places him ahead of Callum Turner, who stands at 11/4. Josh O'Connor follows at 8/1, while Robert Pattinson is listed at 12/1.

Speculation about Lowden’s appointment intensified in recent days after his Slow Horses co star Gary Oldman spoke to Canada’s Global. Oldman suggested the producers had already made their selection.

Oldman told the interviewer that the choice had been made but had not yet been announced. He added, 'So my fingers are crossed for Jack.'

Lowden addressed the comments in an interview with British GQ. When asked about the frenzy, he responded with a laugh and an unreadable smile. He described the attention as flattering but stated he was not going to add to the noise.

'It’s very nice, and Gary’s a sweetheart,' Lowden said. 'But I don’t really listen to it.'

The actor offered a practical explanation for why he might be in contention. He noted that young male actors often receive offers for such roles once they stop playing eccentric characters and start wearing suits.

Lowden brings substantial experience to the potential role. His performance as River Cartwright in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses earned him an Emmy nomination. He has also appeared in the films Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots, and Benediction.

The casting process is reportedly in its final stages. Lowden, Turner, and O'Connor are among the actors linked to a final round of screen tests at London’s Bray Studios. Reports indicate a fourth contender has also participated in the process, though their identity has not been revealed.

Amazon MGM Studios is overseeing the franchise following Daniel Craig’s departure after the 2021 film No Time To Die. The next installment will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker behind Dune.

The studio previously said that the search is underway. A representative stated they were excited to share news with fans as soon as the time was right.

Lowden’s wife, actress Saoirse Ronan, also fielded questions about the speculation. She joked that Oldman thinks he is James Bond. She said that the couple is focused on more mundane tasks like walking their dog and making dinner.
