Seventeen-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic defeated Sofia Kenin on Tuesday to claim her first win in a WTA Tour main draw. The British player overcame the former Australian Open champion with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in Hong Kong.

Stojsavljevic, currently ranked 411st in the world, entered the tournament as a lucky loser after losing in qualifying. She learned she would be playing Kenin just one hour before the match began. Kenin, 27, is ranked 224 positions higher than her opponent.

"I only knew an hour before I was going to be playing. I kind of just went out and swung today," Stojsavljevic said. She added that while she knew Kenin was a Grand Slam champion, she believed in herself during the match.

The teenager recorded six winners to Kenin's zero. She also saved three of the eight break points she faced during the contest. This victory marks a second major result for Stojsavljevic this year, following her upset of Talia Gibson at Billie Jean King Cup qualifying in April.

Stojsavljevic began playing tennis at age seven at Ealing Lawn Tennis Club in London. In 2024, she became the first British player in 15 years to win the US Open junior title. She reached a career high of fifth in the junior rankings and turned professional in 2025.

The British player will face world number 67 Zeynep Sonmez in the second round of the Hong Kong Open.
