Bristol community radio station BCfm has been shortlisted for a British Journalism Award. The station's audio documentary, We Don't Do That Here, is nominated in the Social Affairs, Diversity & Inclusion category. The production is a joint effort with Ujima Radio.

Marcus Smith and Miranda Rae produced the series. The nomination follows a Gold award for News, Journalism & Factual Storytelling of Year that the series received at the 2026 Community Radio Awards. The British Journalism Awards are now in their 15th year. They recognize work that serves the public interest and has real-world impact.

This year, 73 independent judges reviewed 695 entries to select the shortlist. The judges evaluated story quality regardless of the newsroom size. BCfm is the only community radio entry among the six finalists. The other nominees include work from The Guardian, The Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Index on Censorship, The New Humanitarian, Liberty Investigates, and The Londoner.

Local Bristol outlet The Bristol Cable was also shortlisted. They received a nomination for Local Journalism for their work on We've Got Your Boy. Producer Marcus Smith noted the distinction of being on the same list as major national publications. He stated that the station does not have large budgets but has people across the city who trusted them with their stories. Smith said the nomination shows that community radio can produce journalism that stands alongside the very best in the country.

The British Journalism Awards are sponsored by the Aziz Foundation for the Social Affairs category. The shortlist includes stories from independent judges who chose entries from a large pool. The awards aim to celebrate revelatory work that impacts the community.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner hosted by Rory Bremner. The event is scheduled for Thursday, 10 December, at London's Hilton Bankside. BCfm thanked Ujima Radio, the volunteers, and the people who shared their stories for the series.

The full series is available to listen online via the BCfm radio website. The station continues its 15th year of operations in Bristol. The nomination places the local station on a national stage alongside established media organizations.
