Residents of Bucks County and fans of the spy franchise worldwide are watching the casting race closely. Pierce Brosnan, the former James Bond actor, publicly supported Callum Turner on Monday. Brosnan believes the actor has the necessary presence to inherit the role. This endorsement comes as industry reports indicate an official announcement is imminent.
The path to this decision has been long. Daniel Craig played the character in his final film, No Time to Die, in 2021. Since then, speculation has surrounded several candidates. In June, Turner said that he knew nothing about the casting process. He described the rumors as amusing and said he knew as much as the public did. By October, reports suggested Turner had reached the final screen tests for the part.
Brosnan, who played Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002, spoke to Vanity Fair about the current contenders. He said he is now just an audience member eager to see who takes the role. He noted that all the men on the list are actors he admires. Brosnan specifically highlighted his work with Turner in the 2017 film The Only Living Boy in New York. He called Turner strong and said the actor has a voice, physique, and longevity as a performer.
The next James Bond will be directed by Denis Villeneuve. Brosnan expressed excitement about the filmmaker, calling his work visionary and visceral. He predicted the new film would be magnificent. Villeneuve is known for his unique camera work and storytelling style. Brosnan said everyone will be blown away by the director's approach to the franchise.
Other actors in the running have also responded to the rumors. Josh O'Connor, who starred in Challengers, opened a new education and community center in Cheltenham on Tuesday. He said that being considered for the role is extraordinary. He described it as a bizarre pinch-me moment but said there was nothing more to add. Jack Lowden, known for Slow Horses, recently called the rumors flattering.
Recent reports from The Sun added fuel to the speculation. The publication stated that Turner resigned from TwentyTwo Films Ltd last weekend. This was a company he co-founded with his wife, Dua Lipa, in August. A source said that Turner is making the right moves for the role. The source noted that the part is all-consuming and that producers prioritize commitment above all else.
The next James Bond film remains highly anticipated. Brosnan wished the eventual actor a life full of strength and courage. He said he eagerly awaits the news and the celebration of the next Bond. The casting decision will conclude a long period of speculation and prepare the franchise for its next chapter under new leadership.
