The Philadelphia Ballet has scheduled its 2026 run of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker at the Academy of Music. The production presents the story of Marie and her Nutcracker Prince during a Christmas Eve adventure. A conflict between mice and tin soldiers leads to the Prince's victory over the Mouse King. The narrative moves to the Land of the Sweets where the Sugarplum Fairy appears.
The performance duration is two hours and eight minutes. This total includes a 20 minute intermission. The show features Tchaikovsky's score. Specific choreographic elements include dancing candy canes and the Sugarplum Fairy's pas de deux.
Rothman Orthopaedics serves as the presenting sponsor for the event. The company has not released casting details for the principal roles. Audiences will learn which dancers portray the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier closer to opening night.
General admission tickets are available for purchase on the Philadelphia Ballet website. Art-Reach ACCESS tickets are also on sale. Patrons in that program may buy tickets online with a promo code, by phone, or in person. Participants must present a valid ACCESS card at the Academy of Music box office to collect their tickets.
The ballet is partnering with GOVX to provide discounts for military personnel and first responders. These savings apply to all performances during the season. The run begins on Dec. 4, 2026. The final scheduled performance takes place on Dec. 31, 2026.
