The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has secured the top spot among 2026 video game releases, according to a collection of reader letters published in the Metro Gaming Inbox. The title holds a 96 rating on Metacritic, a score that many contributors describe as a validation of Nintendo's faithful approach to the source material.
One reader, writing under the name Onibee, called the game the number one title of the year and the highest-rated remake ever produced. The letter argued that the production team was right to keep the content a close one-to-one match with the original. Onibee noted that deviating toward a giant open-world structure, similar to Breath of the Wild, would have created a completely different game. The writer expressed hope that this success paves the way for a Majora's Mask remake.
Simon, another contributor, described the remake as exactly what he wanted, citing better graphics and an intact original structure. Simon recalled buying the first game in 1998 and mentioned that the new jump button might feel strange at first. Simon said he is almost tempted to save the new release for Christmas, mirroring the timing of his original purchase.
Ciara offered a more critical perspective on the score, questioning whether the 9 out of 10 rating from the publication reflected the game's legacy or its current formal merits. Ciara praised the visual quality and orchestrated music but noted the limited voice acting. The writer asked if the score penalized the game for not including more enemies or play areas. The gaming desk, identified as GC, replied that the low score was due to the lack of Master Quest content and the inability to rename the character Link.
Zeiss recommended 007 First Light as the best game of the year, despite it being available for 50 percent off. Zeiss highlighted the quieter, talky moments that helped define the characters. The reader predicted that the actor playing Bond would win the best actor award at The Game Awards, potentially outshining the new movie star.
Jack H. reported finishing Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave after nearly two months of play. Jack H. gave the game a 9 out of 10, noting that the first part contained the strongest narrative. However, the writer found the third part lacking, specifically criticizing the player character Eshmel for having an unresolved identity. Jack H. recommended the title for Switch 2 owners who enjoy role-playing games.
Berk commented on Rockstar Games' efforts to remove spoiler videos for GTA 6. Berk suggested that the aggressive marketing strategy might indicate surprising plot twists, as the current public knowledge of the story is limited to the two protagonists committing crimes. Berk called the lack of story information and feature breakdowns a mistake in the marketing campaign.
