Kim Kardashian has returned to the Hulu series All's Fair for a second season, shifting the show from a serious legal drama to a full comedy.

The first season, which premiered last year, was intended to be Kardashian's lead acting debut. Critics were harsh, with The Hollywood Reporter describing her performance as wooden and The Times calling the program potentially the worst TV drama ever. Despite the negative reviews, the show became Hulu's most-watched scripted series debut in the last three years. Viewers largely appreciated the campy elements, including outlandish costumes and sharp dialogue from co-stars Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close.

Kardashian, 46, says the production team decided to lean into the public reaction. She notes that the writers, who are tuned into pop culture, observed the audience response and adjusted the script accordingly. Ryan Murphy, the showrunner for American Horror Story and Glee, created the series, which follows a group of divorce lawyers. The cast also includes Naomi Watts and Niecy Nash-Betts.

Naomi Watts, who serves as a producer on the show, says the creators doubled down on the high fashion and heightened reality that viewers enjoyed. She describes Kardashian's acting as being on a positive trajectory, noting that the star was improvising and riffing in ways that Watts found impressive. Kardashian agrees with this assessment, joking that she is naturally funny.

Kardashian's journey with the show has intersected with her personal effort to become a lawyer. She spent six years studying for an apprenticeship that allowed her to bypass a university degree. While promoting the first season, she was awaiting results for her bar exam. She recently learned that she failed the test. She says she will continue her pursuit of the qualification and does not worry about the setback. However, she plans to be quieter about her studies publicly until she passes. She mentions that she had previously used AI for legal advice, which sparked external discussion, so she intends to let the results speak for themselves.

The actress and businesswoman, who has four children with rapper Kanye West and is dating Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, says she has always had a strong sense of her mental health. She prefers to tackle difficult tasks because she wants to learn. She views the criticism of her acting as a challenge rather than a defeat. She compares this to her experience with her shapewear company, which she turned into a five billion dollar brand after initial backlash.

Critics did praise the show for spotlighting professional women who are both successful and feminine. Kardashian says she loves this aspect of the series because it reflects a realistic depiction of many women she knows. She emphasizes that being smart does not preclude an interest in fashion and glamour. The second season will continue to explore these themes.

The show is scheduled to return to Hulu. The production team has confirmed the shift toward comedy and the continued focus on the lives of the divorce lawyers. No specific air date has been announced yet.
