Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Bristol City 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Ashton Gate, moving into second place in the Championship.
The victory extended the visitors' unbeaten streak to five matches. They finished the game with 27 points from 14 fixtures, putting them one point behind league leaders Middlesbrough.
Bristol City took the lead with a free-kick from Scott Twine shortly after the 30-minute mark. The shot curled past the Wolves goalkeeper to give the home side an early advantage.
Sean Neave, who started on the bench, entered the game in the second half to change the momentum. Eight minutes from the end, he tapped in a close-range shot after a parry by Brad Collins. That goal marked his first in senior football.
Seven minutes later, Neave scored again. He directed a header from Ladislav Krejci past the keeper to secure the win for the away side. The late goals sparked celebrations among the Wolves supporters at the ground.
Manager Cesar Peixoto said his team deserved the result despite the slow start. He noted that his players created many chances in the opening 30 minutes but failed to attack the ball aggressively. He called the Bristol City goal amazing but said his side stayed anxious in the final minutes of the first half.
Peixoto told reporters at the post-match press conference that the team needed to change its approach at halftime. He said they went out with more aggression in the second half, playing more direct attacks and using the space between the center back and full back. He credited the players from the bench for pushing the team to the finish line with the right mentality.
The result places Wolves in an automatic promotion spot in the table. They will travel to North Wales on Saturday to play Middlesbrough. A win in that match would allow them to take the top position in the league.
Bristol City manager Marek Skubala and his staff will look to bounce back from the loss. The team has not won in its last four games. They will host Norwich City at Ashton Gate on Saturday in an attempt to return to winning ways.
Norwich City sits 12th in the Championship with six wins and eight losses. They have not drawn a league game this season. Bristol City currently sits 15th, three places behind the Canaries on goal difference alone. A win over Norwich would lift City to 11th in the table for the international break, depending on other results.
