Bath Rugby defeated Sale Sharks 36-28 on Friday, securing a match bonus point in the process. The victory ended a losing streak for the hosts, who controlled the pace of the game despite late pressure from the visitors.
The match began with immediate momentum for Bath. Henry Arundell, returning from a back injury, scored the opening try in his first Premiership appearance of the season. Sale Sharks responded quickly through a driving maul. Nathan Jibulu crossed for the visitors, and George Ford added the conversion to level the score at 7-7.
Bath reasserted control with two rapid tries. Tom de Glanville scored after sustained close-range work by the pack. Joe Cokanasiga followed with a try after a sweeping move that shifted Bath from one side of the pitch to the other. Cokanasiga later extended the lead with a solo try, earning Bath their bonus point.
Sale Sharks kept the contest alive with a try by Tom O'Flaherty, who scored when Bath failed to clear their defensive lines. The hosts sealed the result in the 64th minute. Louie Hennessey crossed the line for Bath, securing the 36-28 advantage.
Sale managed to claim their own try bonus point with two late scores. Luke Cowan-Dickie and Elia Canakaivata crossed in the final minutes to narrow the gap, though not enough to alter the outcome.
Several players returned to form during the contest. Ollie Lawrence, recovering from an Achilles injury, produced strong handling in the center. Miles Reid was effective in defense, earning a vital penalty at the ruck. Tom Dunn, who had struggled earlier in the season, provided a stable platform at the scrum and lineout.
Finn Russell managed the game from the fly-half position. He launched a crossfield kick to Cokanasiga early in the second half, setting up the winger's try. Russell also attempted a long kick from his own half in the opening exchanges, though the team opted for a penalty kick, which he missed.
The forward pack showed improved discipline. Will Jeanes was disciplined around the field, a marked change from the previous week. Ben Spencer, the captain, varied his passing near the breakdown and provided effective box kicking. The defense, led by Charlie Ewels, maintained pressure throughout the contest.
