Jeffery Simmons stepped out of the tunnel in Seattle wearing orange sleeves and a Chicago Bears uniform for the first time. He immediately made an impact on the field. The defensive end recorded a sack on the opening drive of the Monday night game.

Simmons finished the contest with six tackles, three pressures, a tackle for loss, and a pass defensed. His performance anchored a defensive effort that held the Seattle Seahawks to just 252 total yards. Chicago also limited Seattle to only one third-down conversion across 11 attempts.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson described the new arrival's influence as profound. The team had previously struggled to find consistent playmakers on defense. Simmons arrived from Tennessee in a trade last week that included two first-round picks. He did not need time to adjust to the system.

"When I attacked the field, I wasn't worried about the trade," Simmons said. "I wasn't worried about all the outside noise. All I was worried about is play after play, just give the team everything I got."

Quarterback Caleb Williams played efficiently against one of the league's top defenses. He completed 71 percent of his passes for 247 yards without turning the ball over. Williams was sacked once. His passing game set up three short touchdown runs for running back D'Andre Swift. Swift's final score came in the fourth quarter to make the margin 34-17 with 4 minutes and 41 seconds remaining.

The Bears opened the scoring on their first possession. After a 17-play drive, Williams connected with Luther Burden on a 1-yard touchdown pass. Chicago added two field goals in the first half. They extended their lead to 20-9 in the third quarter with another touchdown run by Swift.

Seattle coach Mike Macdonald acknowledged the loss plainly. "We got beat. No other way to sugar coat it," he said. "When you look at the things that it takes to win in our league, we didn't do those things and they did." The defeat ended a 30-game streak in which the Seahawks had not lost by more than four points.

Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold completed 17 of 34 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a fourth-quarter interception that set up Swift's final touchdown. Seattle also struggled on the ground, rushing for only 81 yards despite recent personnel additions. Guard Grey Zabel said the team needs to improve its run game quickly to relieve pressure on the passing attack.

Williams also kept a low profile with his equipment. He wore all-black Caddix cleats with no visible logos. The quarterback reportedly faced fines of about $35,000 over the previous two weeks for displaying an unauthorized logo. "Just to calm things down, man," Williams said. "I want to keep that to a minimum from my side."

Both teams have injuries to manage going forward. Bears defensive linemen Grady Jarrett and Kenatvius Street left the game with groin and knee issues, respectively. Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams exited in the second half with a stinger and did not return. The Bears will host Tampa Bay on Sunday night, while Seattle will host Arizona on Sunday.
