Lincoln Kienholz recorded three total touchdowns to lead Louisville to a 52-24 victory over Stanford on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. The quarterback threw for 250 yards and two scores while adding 62 rushing yards, including a 33-yard run in the third quarter. That run set up a one-yard touchdown score that put Louisville ahead for the final time.
The win marked Louisville’s first ever victory over the Stanford Cardinal. It also extended Stanford’s road losing streak to 15 games, which is the longest active skid in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Louisville finished the game with 545 total offensive yards, splitting the total between 249 through the air and 296 on the ground.
Louisville coach Brian Brohm noted that Kienholz used both his legs and arms effectively. Brohm said the quarterback played tough and made big plays for the team. He described the halftime message as simple, telling the group that every conference game is difficult and that they must play well to win, regardless of betting lines.
The Cardinals opened the game by converting back-to-back turnovers into scores. Louisville outscored Stanford 21-7 in the third quarter to take control. Tre Richardson caught 10 passes for 140 yards for the Cardinals. Isaac Brown led the rushing attack with 139 yards and scored on a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Stanford quarterback Davis Warren threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns for the Cardinal, who improved to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Warren connected with Aiden Black on a 75-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Stanford had tied the game at 24 points early in the third quarter before Louisville scored 28 unanswered points to close the game.
Stanford is now 0-4 on the road this season. The team had been outscored 150-17 in its previous three road games. Louisville improved to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cardinals were without leading wide receiver Lawayne McCoy, who is out for an extended time due to a knee injury.
Louisville will play at Georgia Tech next Saturday. Stanford travels to Virginia Tech on November 14.
