Roy Keane believes Manchester United's struggles are being worsened by a drop in form from goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The former United captain made the comments on The Overlap, stating that the 24-year-old is "costing them" despite his strong performance last season. Lammens arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2025 from Royal Antwerp for a fee of £18 million. He quickly displaced Andre Onana and was widely praised for helping the team qualify for the Champions League last year, earning specific praise from Sir Alex Ferguson.

The goalkeeper's recent record is less impressive. Manchester United have conceded 13 goals in their first eight Premier League games this season, which is the seventh-most in the division. Lammens gave up six goals in the club's last two Champions League matches. He then conceded three more during a home loss to Bournemouth at the weekend. United currently sit in 16th place in the Premier League table after eight matches.

Keane is not the only former player questioning Lammens' ability to be the long-term solution between the posts. Paul Scholes told The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast last month that the jury was still out on the shot-stopper. Scholes argued that top teams require elite goalkeeping, citing Alisson at Liverpool and Raya at Arsenal as examples. "What team have you seen win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper?" Scholes asked.

Lammens addressed the criticism during the recent international break. He insisted that his character has not changed since joining the club. The Belgium international said players must be mentally strong and self-confident when facing public opinion. "I love playing all those Premier League matches," Lammens said. He noted that the environment feels similar to his experience in the Nations League.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick may face pressure over the team's current form. Keane suggested that several players must take responsibility for the results. United travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday to face Chelsea, who are managed by Xabi Alonso. The match is scheduled for this weekend.
