NEW YORK. Fordham University basketball players secured a decisive win on Thursday, defeating Stonehill 83-63 at the gymnasium in New York.

The Rams (1-1) trailed or played even with the Skyhawks for much of the first period. Amir Lindsey led Fordham with seven points in the opening half, but the teams entered the locker room tied at 30-30. The momentum shifted sharply after the break. Fordham outscored Stonehill by 20 points in the second half to secure the victory.

Lateef Patrick provided the offensive spark for the Rams. The bench player scored 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He connected on 4 of 8 three-point attempts and 4 of 4 free throws. Patrick recorded a team-high 19 of those points in the second half alone. Rikus Schulte added 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He also collected 10 rebounds, five assists, and five steals for the Rams.

Stonehill (1-1) relied on Jack Medalie for its top scoring. Medalie finished with 12 points. Trenton Ruth contributed 11 points for the Skyhawks. Eli Greenberg added 11 points and dished out four assists. The Skyhawks could not match Fordham's second-half surge despite a balanced effort from their backcourt.

Fordham will host Iona on Tuesday. Stonehill travels to Columbia on Monday.
