Jeffrey Lurie walked to midfield at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night to accept his place in the Eagles Hall of Fame. The halftime ceremony took place during a 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia's fifth consecutive defeat. Lurie wore a pine green Eagles jacket and was accompanied by Donovan McNabb and Brian Dawkins. A red carpet ran from the sideline to midfield, and video boards listed the 51 prior inductees. White flags bearing the name LURIE flew above the field. In a brief statement, Lurie addressed Eagles fans: "it's been an honor and privilege. I feel incredibly fortunate to be sharing this experience with the greatest fans in the world."
The team's performance has drawn scrutiny. The Eagles have lost five straight games, and Lane Johnson's retirement plus a series of injuries have thinned the roster. Sean Mannion took over as offensive coordinator but has shown little command of the play-calling. Coach Nick Sirianni has faced questions about his in-game decisions, and the defense has underperformed in recent weeks.
A health matter involving Jalen Hurts has also drawn attention. Questions about how the organization handled Hurts' calf pain and the subsequent public response have affected how the franchise is viewed. The Eagles have lost some public trust in the team's handling of the matter.
Lurie's statement released Monday morning thanked the organization. "Throughout my career, I've had the good fortune of working alongside some extraordinary people whose contributions have been instrumental to our team's success," Lurie said. "To our coaches, players, and front office, to everyone who has proudly represented this organization, I am deeply grateful for your dedication, commitment, and shared pursuit of excellence."
During Lurie's 10-year run of contention, the Eagles have won two Super Bowls, reached a third title game, made eight playoff appearances and captured five division crowns.
The Eagles' next scheduled game has not been announced in this report. Questions remain about Hurts' availability and Sirianni's status with the team.
