Pret A Manger has operated since 1986 and now controls more than 700 sites worldwide. The company maintains 527 locations across the United Kingdom. Despite this scale, a large portion of its customer base does not know the literal English meaning of the brand name.

More than one million customers enter Pret A Manger stores every day. They purchase beverages, sandwiches, and sweet treats. The chain focuses on freshly prepared food that customers can grab quickly. The name reflects this convenience. It is a French phrase that translates to 'ready to eat' in English.

A user on the question-and-answer platform Quora asked what the name means. Another user replied that the phrase indicates food prepared for immediate consumption. This user noted that the brand emphasizes quality and sustainability. The explanation covered the store's core menu items, including sandwiches, salads, soups, and coffee.

A second contributor connected the name to the fashion industry. They stated that 'pret a manger' is a nod to 'prêt-à-porter.' That French fashion term means 'ready to wear.' The implication is that there is no waiting time, similar to buying off-the-rack clothing rather than tailor-made items. This contributor said the name targets an audience that wants healthier food quickly.

A third comment reinforced the fashion link. The user described the name as a play on 'pret a porter.' They explained that the concept applies primarily to women's fashion. The core idea remains the absence of a wait. The name signals that the food is ready to eat without delay.

The chain is introducing a new lunch deal called Pick your Pair. It costs £4.99. The promotion includes new warm ciabattas and seasonal coffees. The warm ciabatta options include Three Cheese and Tomato, Chicken Caesar Bacon, and Beef Birria and Jalapeno. The Three Cheese and Tomato version features cheddar, mozzarella, and Italian-style cheese on red tapenade. It is topped with roasted tomatoes and basil.

The Chicken Caesar Bacon ciabatta contains chicken and bacon in Caesar dressing. It is topped with Grevé cheese and spring onion. The Beef Birria and Jalapeno ciabatta features tender beef birria, black bean mole, and cream cheese. It is topped with peppers, spring onion, and jalapenos. The menu also adds new pastries, including Spinach and Feta and Bacon, Cheese, and Jalapeno. Both are served warm.

New soups include Creamy Roast Chicken and Butter Chicken. The Creamy Roast Chicken soup contains roast chicken, cream, potatoes, and vegetables. It is finished with herbs and garlic. The Butter Chicken soup features tender chicken, red pepper, and black lentils in a masala curry. It is spiced with garlic, ginger, and garam masala. Dessert items include Loaded Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread and three types of cookies. The cookies feature chocolate hazelnut praline, triple chocolate, and raspberry white chocolate flavors. Coffee options include a Toasted Marshmallow Latte, a Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate, and a Pumpkin Spiced Latte. The Pumpkin Spiced Latte is topped with cinnamon.
