A woman in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is facing a personal dilemma after a spontaneous night with a man she met at a family event. The incident occurred last month and has now created tension in her relationship with an ex-partner she recently took back.

The woman, who has been friends with a best friend since junior school, attended her parents’ 30th anniversary party in a hotel. Her ex-boyfriend, who had been drinking heavily, arrived at the celebration in a state of intoxication. The woman found the behavior disrespectful and broke up with him on the spot.

During the party, she spent the evening with the son of a couple from her parents’ university days. The two shared a night of sex in the hotel room. They parted ways the next morning without exchanging contact information. The woman described the experience as enjoyable and a form of revenge.

She told her best friend about the encounter. The two laughed it off and agreed it was a moment of fun. However, her friend later shared the details with her own partner, who now knows the story. The woman fears her friend’s partner might tell her ex-boyfriend.

The ex-boyfriend returned a few days after the party, promising to quit drinking. The woman accepted his apology and agreed to give the relationship another chance if he stayed sober. She is now worried that the secret will come out and ruin the fresh start.

Laura Collins, a counselor and columnist, advises the woman to confess the truth. Collins suggests explaining that she felt lonely and unattached at the time. She argues that volunteering the information now gives the couple a chance to smooth things over.

Collins also recommends that the woman ensure her partner keeps his promise to manage his drinking. She suggests support groups like AA if the problem persists. If the boyfriend reacts strongly to the one-night stand, Collins says it may be time to end the relationship for good.
