Bath Rugby has announced that Santi Carreras will sit out the remainder of the 2026/27 season after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

The 28-year-old Argentina international fullback sustained the injury during Friday night's 23-5 loss to Gloucester at Kingsholm. He was replaced in the 12th minute after going down away from contact while stepping off his right leg. Club head of medical services Rory Murray confirmed the severity of the injury in an official statement released today.

Bath enters this week's Round Five fixture against Sale Sharks after three consecutive defeats in all competitions. The team lost 32-14 to Montpellier in the Investec Champions Cup and then fell to Gloucester in the West Country derby. Sale Sharks are also struggling, sitting in seventh place in the Gallagher PREM table after a 17-3 loss to Newcastle Red Bulls. Bath currently holds the sixth position, one spot above its opponent.

Guy Pepper, the England flanker, will also miss the upcoming Nations Championship due to an ankle injury sustained in the same Gloucester match. He joins Sam Underhill on the sidelines. Underhill is recovering from bicep surgery and is expected to return in early December. Springbok number eight Dan du Preez remains unavailable for selection after pulling a hamstring in training.

Some players have returned to full team training. Wingers Will Muir and Henry Arundell, along with fullback Tom de Glanville, resumed drills this week. Flanker Thompson Cowan and tighthead prop Billy Sela are expected to return to the squad in the coming weeks. Loosehead prop Jamie Bhatti continues his recovery from a fractured forearm suffered in pre-season against Glasgow Warriors and is targeting a return in the new year.

The match is scheduled for Saturday at 3.05 p.m. at the Recreation Ground. Anthony Woodthorpe will serve as referee, with Alex Thomas and Simon Harding as assistant referees. Dan Jones will operate the Television Match Official. Official team news was released at midday on Friday.

The Recreation Ground hosts the game as both clubs look to snap their losing streaks. Bath has not won in its last three outings, while Sale has lost its last two. The result will determine the immediate standing in the lower half of the Gallagher PREM table for both squads.
