President Donald Trump showcased the newly finished White House ballroom on November 5, 2026. He used the tour to mark the day after the Republican Party suffered heavy losses in the midterm elections. Trump said he accepts the outcome of the vote.

The president acknowledged that the Iran war influenced voter sentiment. He stated that he is not considering replacing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth despite dissatisfaction among voters regarding the conflict. Many of his loyalists followed his lead and reluctantly accepted the results.

Vice President JD Vance took a different public stance. He broke from Trump’s defense of the Iran war following the party's deep losses. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced he is stepping aside from Republican leadership. He will not run for House minority leader in the new Congress.

Financial markets reacted to the political shift. U.S. Stocks soared after Trump's party lost its sole control of Washington. In Michigan, Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed said about the results. He said voters rejected a campaign he described as hateful and spiteful after months of attacks on his Muslim identity.

Other news from the day included a shooting in Florida. Authorities said a gunman opened fire at Citibank's business complex in suburban Tampa. A woman died, and a security guard fatally shot the gunman. In Tennessee, authorities are still piecing together how a convicted murderer evaded capture for more than a week. LIV Golf faces uncertainty after a Financial Times report said its main investor is dropping plans for LIV 2.0.

The White House ballroom tour served as a visual statement for the administration. Trump used the space to project stability after the election day setbacks. The move comes as the party reorganizes for the new congressional session.
