Kristin Egan, a public school teacher and Neshaminy School Board director, has announced her candidacy for Pennsylvania state representative in the 142nd District.
Egan, who has taught for more than two decades, says she is running because Harrisburg needs leaders who understand the daily realities of working families. She serves as a union officer, chief negotiator, and curriculum coordinator in her district. Egan argues that state funding gaps currently place a heavy burden on local taxpayers and students. She cites her experience as a school board director to explain how difficult choices are made when the state fails to pass a fair budget.
The candidate highlights her bipartisan record on the Neshaminy School Board as evidence of her leadership style. She notes that four registered Democrats and three registered Republicans on the board collaborated to pass a Responsible Contractor Ordinance. This measure was designed to safeguard taxpayer dollars and promote accountability on large construction projects. Egan says the group worked through disagreements based on principles rather than party lines. She believes this approach offers a model for how Harrisburg should operate.
Egan also points to her role as chief negotiator in her school district, where she worked with a Republican-led school board to ratify a contract. She selected her negotiation team based on expertise rather than political affiliation. The resulting contract aimed to benefit taxpayers while supporting students and staff. Egan says she will bring this same practical experience to the state legislature. She is endorsed by Governor Josh Shapiro, who has previously worked to improve education funding. Egan is committed to closing state funding gaps so that residents do not face higher property taxes to cover the difference.
Her platform includes supporting fair wages for community members and ensuring affordable medical care. She wants neighbors to access doctors and prescriptions without financial worry. Egan also plans to support local law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS with necessary resources to keep communities safe. She aims to protect the working class from rising utility costs and unfair corporate pricing practices. Egan describes herself as a wife of a small business owner and a mother of three school-aged children. She says her background in education and local governance prepares her to represent the 142nd District in Harrisburg.
