Democrats took control of both chambers of the Pennsylvania General Assembly on Tuesday night, completing a political trifecta for the first time in over three decades. The party now holds the majority in the state Senate, the state House, and the Governor's Mansion, a configuration that has not existed in Pennsylvania since 1993.

The Senate flip came after Democrats gained three seats, securing a majority of 26. Control of the House, where Democrats previously held a slim majority, expanded as the party won seven additional seats. This shift removes the divided government dynamic that often stalled legislation.

Supporters gathered on the steps of the state capitol in Harrisburg to celebrate the results. House Speaker Joanna McClinton said the previous gridlock prevented key bills from passing due to a lack of compromise from Senate Republicans.

"Well first of all - we had so many things that failed because of the Senate Republicans refusing to compromise. So, we look forward to finally closing the loop on raising the minimum wage, funding our transit system, fairly funding our education, getting ahead of the data center influx," McClinton said.

With both chambers under Democratic control starting in January, the party intends to move its legislative agenda without the previous obstacles. Priorities cited by McClinton include raising the minimum wage, funding transit and education, and addressing the growth of data centers in the state.
