A car crossed a fence and struck a home in the 4200 block of Route 563 in Woodland Township around 2 p.m. Monday, igniting fires in both the vehicle and the residence. The elderly homeowners were inside at the time and escaped safely, according to neighbor Benito Renaudo. New Jersey State Police provided information on the incident.
Renaudo said he has repeatedly tried to improve safety along the roadway, citing a history of accidents in the area. He spent $1,000 to install a flashing arrow sign and placed beacon lights to mark a dark curve. "I put a telephone pole up. I have this thing lit up like Christmas and I don't know what else I can possibly do," Renaudo said.
Renaudo said he has contacted Burlington County officials about the danger but argues additional intervention is required. "We don't feel safe," he said. "If I have to put logs up so we don't die just to get our mail, something's wrong." The roadway runs through Woodland Township in Burlington County.
The crash remains under investigation by New Jersey State Police, who responded to the scene along with local fire crews.
